Archery clubs in New Orleans area

Question:

Do you know of any archery clubs/classes in the New Orleans, LA area? Clifton Juan Harvey, Louisiana PH# & FAX#:  504-368-0694

Response:

For adult or for Junior (JOAD)? There is a link on the TSAA website that explains JOAD and helps find local chapters using the National Archery Association’s website link… http://texasarchery.org/L1/ClubsJOADs.htm and scroll down past the FAQ and other resources. For adults, best to check the yellow pages and call/ask the local archery shops… > Do you know of any archery clubs/classes in the New Orleans, LA area? > Clifton Juan > Harvey, Louisiana > PH# & FAX#:  504-368-0694

Bow Rack??

Question:

I have four recurves I’d like to hang on a wall mounted rack.  I’ve seen the racks from Ballantines and Peak & Valley.  Are there any other unique designs out there? I’m an accomplished woodworker and I’d like to see all of my building options before I start building.  Looking for ideas….. Thanks…Joel

Response:

use a ten penny finishing nail.   Drive four into the wall evenly spaced.   Then use a 1/4" forstner bit and drill holes in the top limbs, about midway through the deflex.  spiffy and easy to take down and put up!  (JUST KIDDING!!!!) (having no good advice to offer, ski dog, I thought to try and be mildly amusing.  sorry <RBG> – but hey, it’s Friday night!!!) > I have four recurves I’d like to hang on > a wall mounted rack.  I’ve seen the racks > from Ballantines and Peak & Valley.  Are > there any other unique designs out there? > I’m an accomplished woodworker and I’d > like to see all of my building options before > I start building.  Looking for ideas….. > Thanks…Joel

Hi folks,     I’m wanting to buy a yellowstone string jig and was wondering if anyone could point me in the right direction.     I can’t seem to find a supplier.     Thanks in advance for any help.                     Mike McDaniel

Response:

google search produces: http://www.thebowman.com/mall/cattool_stringjigs.asp from other links I found, they [who are they anyway :-) ] say its the best jig; that should start a few posts. cheers Bob S.

or you could make your own.  Check the docs page on the (sorry to say it again<G>)   TSAA website.  There is one that will cost FAR less than the yellowstone.   Won’t be quite as purty, though…. > Hi folks, >     I’m wanting to buy a yellowstone string jig and was wondering if anyone > could point me in the right direction. >     I can’t seem to find a supplier. >     Thanks in advance for any help. >                     Mike McDaniel

always glad to hear when something good comes of the site.   cool and thanks… After doing about 1 dozen strings, I have become a LOT better making them then on the first.   After a few thousand more I might begin to approach Jane Jackson’s ability. <RBG> – Hide quoted text — Show quoted text – > Thanks Ron, >     I built a variation of yours yesterday. FS: WinAct Riser and #42 Medium Limbs

Question:

I have a pretty WinAct riser and limbs for sale, it’s treated me well for over a year or so but I just don’t have the time to shoot anymore =( The riser is the Red/Yellow splash color and comes with the WinAct rest. The limbs are #42 by WinAct, Carbon Wood limbs, there is a small scratch on the top limb but otherwise just normal wear and tear and in good shape. This is a great competition riser / limb combination. For pictures please check out http://photos.yahoo.com/krarcher Han Su Kim

Shirley, you can’t be serious? Girl scouts? (Are these outdoor Ladyboys?) Whatever happened to Girl Guides? You could set the scene with Maid Marion and the Amazons…..

ESPN column

Question:

I know, this is not something that often covers archery, and this only does in the lightest way. Saw it mainly for the fun image they used on the index page – http://espn-i.starwave.com/i/page2/topstory/020226_bottom.gif and the column isn’t great – http://espn.go.com/page2/s/halloran/020226.html but it started me wondering – does that Korean lady (I forget her name for the moment) still have the world record for a FITA recurve of about 1380-something? And isn’t that about half a dozen points above the mens world record? Any ideas/comments/flame mail? Tom

Ladies shoot 60m while Gents shoot 90m. There’s the difference. Give and take 20-30 points. MA

Response:

BUT the table is at 70 meters for BOTH sexes….the scores I cited are all at the same distance, I think, for the qual round which was 70 meters.   In that table there are the top 10 men and the top 10 women.  I even did it in pink and blue so you can more easily see that FOUR of the FIVE HIGHEST scores were turned in by PINK ladies, which makes the boys BLUE<G>…. apples to apples in that comparison, I hoped…. > Beats me. Yeah, I noticed. In Sydney Ladies shot in the morning, when it was quite calm. At afternoon the wind was pretty nasty. The original post was about FITA- scores. M

I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again….    ;-) The ladies practice (probably) a lot more at 70m than the gents (‘cos it’s their longest distance), so of course they’re better (at 70M). You only have to look at the FITA 18M and 25M World Records (on the FITA website)  to see that the guys are way out in front.  That’s more apples to apples, IMHO  ;-) <RBG> -Mac

So you don’t think the men practice at the only distance that *really* counts, the distance at which all the finals in championships take place? I must say I disagree. Bu then again, our practicing range is 60 meters long if we "stretch it", so I don’t practice much at 70 myself :-) > You only have to look at the FITA 18M and 25M World Records (on the FITA > website) >  to see that the guys are way out in front.  That’s more apples to apples, > IMHO  ;-) > <RBG> > -Mac

Hoyt (recurve) Avalon+, Axis, or Elan?

Question:

Am ordering a set of FX limbs.  Would like opinions about using an Avalon+, Axis, or Elan riser? I’ve read what I can find on the net; your-all’s opinions would help. Thanks in advance. BTW: One person was suggesting I look at the new Martin as well…

Okay. I’m tempted to wonder why – when you haven’t decided on the combination. The same set of limbs in different risers will feel differently. >Would like opinions about using an Avalon+, >Axis, or Elan riser? I’ve read what I can find on the net; your-all’s >opinions would help. Thanks in advance.

They’ll all hit the middle if you shoot them well. No one can really advise you any differently. Depends what you are looking for – a heavy/light riser, a short/long riser, a pretty/ugly riser :o ) >BTW: One person was suggesting I look at the new Martin as well…

And then there’s the Win & Win stable of risers – oh yes and the Spigarelli, the Best, the PSE… I recommend you trawl the net a bit more, find a set of risers you like the look of then see if you can beg/steal/borrow any of them.
