I would be grateful of anyone of these things of which you speak, considering how unpredictable the Gods can be at the best of times. Thankyou

Response:

As it happens, we got all three! We got: (1) good archery weather, warm, enough cloud cover to prevent it getting too hot, slight breeze (enough to be pleasant) and a little shower as we finished shooting (2) I shot well and true taking second place in my own category (3) everyone said what a great day they had had and many said we should do more. Considering that this was the first tournament that we (the current administration) had ever organised, we accept this as a generous pat on the back! A big thankyou to everyone who helped and every one who turned up for making the day so special

Range in Oakland, CA, USA

Question:

Hi All: Have heard that there is a public park with range in Oakland, CA. I will be spending a couple of weeks there in late August and would like to find this range. Any info on location will be appreciated. Please reply via post or directly at your convenience. Thanks, SA — Stephen A Walker                   "TANSTAAFL" P.O. Box 1574 Glendale, AZ 85311-1574

Response:

I’ve never been to the range in Redwood Regional Park, but the park is located in the Oakland hills close to the I-580 SR 13 interchange.  The range is at the north end of the park. http://www.ebparks.org/parks/redwood.htm The park I normally shoot at is located east of Oakland, maybe a 15-20 minute drive during non-commute hours. http://www.archeryweb.com/briones/location.html Hope this helps. – Hide quoted text — Show quoted text -> Hi All: > Have heard that there is a public park with range in Oakland, CA. > I will be spending a couple of weeks there in late August and would > like to find this range. > Any info on location will be appreciated. > Please reply via post or directly at your convenience. > Thanks, > SA > — > Stephen A Walker                   "TANSTAAFL" > P.O. Stephen, The following link has a list of Northern California Archery Clubs.  The Redwood Bowmen Range in Oakland CA is listed here along with a map. Good Shooting! Perry

Response:

Hi: The range is on Skyline Road/Boulevard(?), can’t remember which.  To get there get off Highway 13 at Juaquine Miller Road and turn up the hill. Skyline if at the crest of the hill, about 1 mile up.  There are signs for the range on Skyline.  Have fun, it’s a great range even if the construction of the new palnetarium/observatory has screwed up a few targets. Yoga and archery

Question:

Hi there, I have some minor back problems, and someone recently suggested to me that I try doing some Yoga to help out with body symmetry and increase flexibility. Does anyone out there have experience of Yoga, and if so have they used any of the exercises they have learned to help them with their shooting? Thanks in advance, and good shooting John Kearney

Response:

> Does anyone out there have experience of Yoga, and if so have they > used any of the exercises they have learned to help them with their > shooting?

Yes. Do it under a good master, though. Not from a book. The physical exercises are great for stretching and loosening. The mental side is fine against competition stress. Regards, Ian

You could also try Alexander technique. I’ve heard it’s good for re- educating you to avoid some of the causes of back pain. Share what you know. Learn what you don’t.

Response:

Yoga has the advantage of being widely available and can be very helpful. Just be sure not to get into a mindset of pushing your limits and seeing how far you can go. Instead pay attention to your body and find someone who knows how to gently extend your flexability and range of movement. Alexander is very good and you will probably find it helps with your archery also. But as far as I know you need to work with a teacher, all the books I’ve seen give the basic ideas but little else. The Feldenkrais method is another movement/awareness teaching that is very good with athletic performance and pain. You can work one on one with a teacher, or there are group classes called ATM’s which are much less expensive. You can even get ‘lessons’ on tapes or in books but I think it’s helpful to at least take a few ATM classes or talk to a teacher, because how you do the lessons can be just important as what you do in the lessons. Thanks for the feedback.  I’ve managed to locate a Yoga instructor and should have a go at it some time in September. Keep ‘em in the gold, everyone. (Or when shooting at 100 yards, keep ‘em on the boss!) John Kearney

PSE Carrera – Perimeter Weighted Cam

Question:

I talked to a bow shop owner and he told me that the PSE Carrera did not have a perimeter weighted cam.  Is this true?  If so, is there a PSE model that does? — Scott

Hi Scott Check out the new 1999 PSE web site at http://pse-archery.com They show various cams, some of which look as though they have perimeter weighting. Good Shooting Rich

Response:

Scott, I replied to you before about the "Carrera" remember its not a Matthews but the closest replica of the "Perimeter Weighted cam" is the Lightning one cam by PSE .  Bear / Jenning has a Close version of it also. PSE won’t be selling this because Xerox Pete got his ass sued by Matthews patent owner, Bear for this total ripoff.

Ranges in Torrence CA???

Question:

Hi All: I’ll be working in Torrance CA for a couple of weeks. Can anyone give info on an outdoor or indoor ranges in the Torrance area? Please either post or reply directly. TIA — Stephen A Walker                "Don’t let go."  The "Law of of P.O. Box 1574 Glendale, AZ 85311-1574         Words of advice to a climber.

Response:

There are no ranges in Torrance (where I live, unless you want to count my back yard)  but many in the area.  Pasadena is the most active club in the area (30 to 45 minutes from Torrance) with Field/Hunter rounds every Sunday of the year (except when it would otherwise conflict with a charity shoot for the City of Hope). For straight target shooting, El Dorado Park in North Long Beach (20 – 30 minutes from Torrance) is where the archery competition for the 84 Olympics was held. There are also a number of Pro Shops in the area with indoor ranges. If you are interested in getting together to shoot on a Saturday or Good Shooting! Perry
