Q's Bear Kodiak bow

Question:

An elderly friend of mine has an old Bear Kodiak recurve bow,. It is in good shape. It says glass powered and has a patent date of 1953 on one limb. Is this the date or could it be of later vintage? It can be used right or left hand. 60" 49# pull serial # DM6xx does the serial # give a clue to the age? He wants to sell it but does not have any idea as to the value. Does this bow have any collector value? E-mail me or post responce here,  Thanks for any assistance.

Limb?

Question:

I am looking at getting some carbon limbs for outdoors.  I am thinking of either the Win & Win Winacts or the Hoyt FX limbs.  I have a few questions though.  First I would like to know if Winacts come in heavier weights than 40lbs.  I looked on their website and it said that 40 was the heaviest they came.  Next How straight are the Winacts usually.  I know that Hoyt limbs aren’t always straight when they come from the factory.  I would rather not have to spend time trying to get a straight pair.     Lastly does anyone know of a good source of limbs either new or used.  I am looking for 42-44lbs long limbs.  If someone is looking to sell e-mail me and we can deal. Archeryking

Response:

Win&Win limbs come in weights up to 46#’s.  I have a set of 38 and 42#.  Both are straight.  I’ve had a few sets of carbon plus limbs, but had problems with each set.  I haven’t had problems with W&W’s though. Response:

The FX I believe it probably a better limb than the W&W WinAct but the WinAct is some pretty impressive limbs.  For the price I dont’ know if they can be beat .. I own a set that’s #42 and I love them to death.

<snip> Have you considered the new(ish) limbs from Border? I think they are called MLR2. I have the previous best set, the XP10 Evolution.  They are much better then the Hoyt Syntactic Carbon limbs (IMHO) and there’s hardly any difference in price.  I’ve heard the same about MLR2 vs. HoytFX. -Mac http://www.altservices.co.uk is usually a good bet for equipment.

Just ML2, IIRC. >I have the previous best set, the XP10 Evolution.  They are much >better then the Hoyt Syntactic Carbon limbs (IMHO) and there’s >hardly any difference in price.  I’ve heard the same about MLR2 >vs. HoytFX.

I agree in every respect.  For quality and good service, go to Border. Their wood/carbon limbs are a cheaper option and are excellent.  I have heard good things about W&W limbs though. John Kearney

League score sheet needed

Question:

I’m new to this newsgroup and thought this would be the first place to look for some help. I’m tying to help out a friend who shoots in a bow league. He has been tasked with making a spread sheet to keep track of 10 or 11 teams of shooters, I think 2 per team? Anyway, he needs to track the stats for each shooter and each team. Then he hopes to be able to get average’s for both the shooters and the teams plus totals to see who wins. He is also hoping that there is a way to get a rotating schedule out of it too. Anyone know of a site or place I can get the basic format from? Or something to get me going on the right road? Thanks for any help offered! Jon Foster. PS. We use Excel if you know of one pre made…

Stop Spam

Question:

Ever since I started to participate in these archery chat groups I have been receiving an increasing number of SPAM mailings from people usuing our addresses. I talked to my provider and was given the following advice. 1.  Do not answer with "Remove" in the subject line if you are told that this is a way to get off the mailing list.  What this does is confirm to the sender that you are an active email account. 2.  Forword the SPAM message to the provider of the person who sent you the mail.  You do this by replacing the portion of the address before will usually answer you saying that they will look into the problem. Good Luck. * Sent from RemarQ http://www.remarq.com The Internet’s Discussion Network * The fastest and easiest way to search and participate in Usenet – Free!

This isn’t really the forum for this, there are whole newsgroups devoted to mail abuse. I tried following one for a while, but the number of messages in it racked up too quickly for me to keep up with. But anyway… – Hide quoted text — Show quoted text -> Ever since I started to participate in these archery chat groups I have > been receiving an increasing number of SPAM mailings from people usuing > our addresses. This would be nice if it worked. In practice, most spammers seem to forge their e-mail headers, so locating where the message was sent from is difficult, maybe impossible for thos of us without the time or inclination to go digging into the technicalities. Following up on the "remove" address or any website URLs mentioned may be worthwhile, but they usually seem to be just mail-drop points, and the spammer hasn’t violated THEIR terms of service (usually). I find that at best you get a "we are investigating" message back following a complaint, maybe followed by a "the header was forged" message. And if you close one line of attack, they’ll just switch to another provider. I use a filter to trashcan spam before I see it, note this doesn’t work for new spam, only for stuff I’ve seen before. I also filter out based on a heuristic (I hope no-one I know ever wants to send me stuff with "earn lots!!!" as a subject :-]). A better solution may be to use one of these false return addresses you see people using (the NOSPAM sort of thing), which, hopefully stops the spammers harvesting your real address from the newsgroups. I don’t know how effective this is, as I can’t easily do it, posting as I do through Deja.com. Before you buy.

Scoresheet Software

Question:

I have a Psion Series 5 which is a little palmtop computer which fits nicely into my quiver, and I was wondering if anyone knows if there is a program for it, that can calculate scores, i.e. you type in the individual scores, and it adds up all the totals. Any help would be great, Aubrey

No clue if there is anything here but try http://www.psionking.com/series5.htm Heath Phillippi Matthew 10:16 Behold, I send you forth as sheep in the midst of wolves: be ye therefore wise as serpents, and harmless as doves. Peter II 3:3-4 First of all you must understand this, that scoffers will come in the last days with scoffing, following their own passions and saying, "Where is the promise of his coming? For ever since the fathers fell asleep, all things have continued as they were from the beginning of creation." Corinthians II 11:3-4  But I am afraid that as the serpent deceived Eve by his cunning, your thoughts will be led astray from a sincere and pure devotion to Christ.  For if some one comes and preaches another Jesus than the one we preached, or if you receive a different spirit from the one you received, or if you accept a different gospel from the one you accepted, you submit to it readily enough. *****LEGAL NOTICE TO ALL BULK E-MAILERS***** NOTICE TO BULK EMAILERS:  Pursuant to US Code, Title 47, Chapter 5,  Subchapter II,  227, any and all nonsolicited commercial E-mail sent to this address is subject to a download and archival fee in the amount of $500 US. Doesn’t the Psion include a spreadsheet in the built in software. Each arrow score will need to be in a different cell, the totalling will be easy, more complex (but you only have to work it out once) will be counting hits and golds on each line. I’m not great on spreadsheets and don’t have a Psion to try it on. There is a Psion user provided support site somewhere – try http://www.armlink.ndirect.co.uk/ for a start. Anthony —

Try http://www.rmplc.co.uk/eduweb/sites/splomas/myarch/SPL/files.html they should be archery files with score cards for ALL the popular rounds, the last time I looked they had Psion * PC * Acorn I use mine on a PC and it totals at 1/2 doz and keeps a running total and gives final totals for hits golds ect. Chuck Adams

Question:

I just went to the Bowhunting Council of Oklahoma’s convention this weekend at the Kirkpatrick Center in Oklahoma City.  Chuck Adams was the guest speaker and gave three seminars on hunting North American big game animals with a bow.  Chuck is a very educated man and an excellent speaker.  He was very down to earth and allowed time between seminars to talk with the people in attendance.  If you ever get a chance to see one of his presentations, make the time.  Trust me, you won’t regret it. — Jason Bratton Fellow Bowhunting Addict

Response:

The thing i have always found interesting about Adams is that he seems to be one of the most successsful big game hunters out there and manages to do it without an excessive emphasis on speed, fancy technological bells and whistles and other related paraphenalia.  This seems to be a refreshing change from archery’s current emphasis on technological solutions to any issue. eric wright

If I had the money Chuck was spending on outfitters, I would not need any whiz-bang goodies either! Chuck is not your "typical" hunter and I would not use him as an example of what we should strive for. My .02. I don’t play well with others,                          it seems "others" have a problem with losing.                                   JohnG
