Question:

Hi All, I’m keen to take up archery, I’ve tried it a couple of times just for about an hour overall and want to start out.  I used a recurve barebow and it gave me a good taster. Does anyone know of people who shoot or clubs near South Glasgow area, I stay just outside Hamilton. Any help would be appriciated. Neil

Question:

I like the idea of using a handheld computer and entering in my hits. Has anyone got any favourite systems – hardware or software – that they recommend?

Response:

The article I wrote for Archery Focus dealing with a program for Palm OS handhelds can be found (along with lots of other archery info) on the Texas State Archery Association’s website – the specific story’s URL is http://texasarchery.org/Documents/TargetPlot/digital_scores.htm And as AK has indicated, they have a website where you can download an Eval copy of TP. – Hide quoted text — Show quoted text – > I like the idea of using a handheld computer and entering in my hits. Targetplot. I especially like the way you have a record of the lie of the shafts. I just wish someone made a good waterproof cover for PalmOS machines. Response:

freezer quality zip lock bags, with the fancier slider tab, work well because you can tap through the plastic. :) They also make much more expensive plastic cases specifically for palms, totally watertight.   but big bucks I noticed a small cell phone plastic belt case in REI a few weeks ago that was waterproof. It was in the kayaks section. – Hide quoted text — Show quoted text – > Targetplot. > I especially like the way you have a record of the lie of the shafts. > I just wish someone made a good waterproof cover for PalmOS machines. > My Visor doesn’t like getting wet… > I like the idea of using a handheld computer and entering in my hits. Shadyshark Use a plastic bag with the plastic locking strip at the top, if you use a bag that your hand held will just fit in its easy to use the stylus to mark the shots. Neil

Archers Advantage has a new program that I saw a test version of at the Martin Archery factory.  One of their pro’s had a Beta test version.  It was great.  Had many features of the TargetPLot software plus earlier versions of AA software.  Also had formats for ASA, IBO, NFAA, FITA, and Safari format tournments. My understanding is that it will be available in January 2001. – Hide quoted text — Show quoted text – >I like the idea of using a handheld computer and entering in my hits. There’s a thriving club at Lasswade high school. I don’t know when they shoot, but I’m sure you can get details from them by phone. Lasswade hosts many of the annual indoor and outdoor competitions. They don’t have a web site that I know of. There’s also a small club (ACE – Archery Club of Edinburgh) which shoots at Warriston playing fields Monday, Wednesday and Thursday (6:30 ’till 9:30), run by John Dickson (one of Scotland’s top archers). They do have some web information, but it’s badly out of date (sorry John!) Unfortunately John’s not been seen (by me at any rate) on the ‘net recently. You could also try asking the SAA (Scottish Archery Association) County Secretary: Mr Bob McGonigle 26, Grove Street, Musselburgh. EH21 7JX Telephone: 0131 653 6285 Good luck with it and I hope you enjoy it as much as we all do. — Murray Elliot

URL: Archery in Norway

Question:

The Archery in Norway pages have had a major update and reorganisation, now having a consistent and (IMHO) a very easy to navigate interface. The Norwegian pages were finished long ago (except the record pages), but now all except the records have also been finished in English. You’ll find an introduction to archery with descriptions of the archery divisions, classes, shooting rounds and more. There’s also information about the Norwegian archery association (Norges Bueskytterforbund), event schedules (Norwegian and international events) in a user-friendly format (with pointers to event sites!), Norwegian archery records and more. If you are interested in what’s going on in Norwegian archery, or if you have nothing better to do, go have a look at http://web.fou.telenor.no/fou/ttkiln/uk/archery/archery.htm (English) http://web.fou.telenor.no/fou/ttkiln/no/archery/archery.htm (norsk) Check out those pages to see how things should be done ;-) — Kjetil Kilhavn — archer, member of Team OS/2 http://web.fou.telenor.no/fou/ttkiln/uk/kilhavn.htm http://web.fou.telenor.no/fou/ttkiln/arc_www/history/latest.htm
