NAA Rule Arrow size?

Question:

Has anybody heard about the new rule by FITA that will eliminate any arrows over the size of 23XX diameter?  No more fat shafts I guess.  Any info? Chad Davis

What I’ve heard is: Maximum arrow size 9.3 mm ( 23xx) from the day after the 2001 Indoor Champ ( 19 March 2001 ). So you’ve got a year, unless the NAA brings the rule in earlier than that… Share what you know. Learn what you don’t.

I believe this is supposed to go into effect this coming or right after this coming up World Indoors in Guatemala?  Or is it the next one is this going into effect.  Either way, I’m sure the US NAA will follow suit only because if someone get’s a world record in the US, it’ll be FITA legal if we follow this rule. NAA is a FITA member, it has to follow the rules. MA

Response:

There are NO "NAA" target archery rules, the NAA follows rules set by FITA.

Response:

I can assure everyone that the NAA will follow all the FITA rules on arrow size and all rules for that matter.  The FITA rulebook is the NAA rulebook. Not quite true. You have to follow FITA rules only where FITA rules apply. In Britain we have non-FITA rules for non-FITA rounds. Presumably we could have a complete set of non-FITA rules governing bows and shooting if our governing body chose to do so, but it simplifies administration by keeping the two rule sets more or less in step, so the variations occur where FITA rules don’t really apply (on non-metric rounds for example). Another "for example" is dress regulations. The British green-and-white colour requirement is not a FITA rule, it is a GNAS one. Presumably GNAS could say "no arrow larger than 23xx for FITA indoor rounds, shot under FITA rules, no limits otherwise", and so could the NAA. Before you buy.

Yep, and I could put up a competition where we shoot cans and old tyres… Anyways, next is from Georges message: "There are NO "NAA" target archery rules, the NAA follows rules set by FITA." Miika

Next FITA World Indoor Champs will be in Italy in 2001. I understand the new ruling will come into effect after this. As far as I know, world records will continue uninterupted unless FITA decide that the new shaft sizes mean new records will have to be achieved…can’t see this happening though! FITA 1999 Congress has approved a limitation for arrow diameter to 9.3 mm, to be effective from April, 1 , 2001. 9.3 mm is supposed to cover all 23xx sizes as maximum. That means that the existing larger sizes will be allowed up to the FITA World Indoor Championship in March 2001 in Italy ( not Guatemala…..) , then no more. It is of course a FITA rule, only, and other bodies not binded to FITA may have different rules for the same subject.
